Hanakahi gripped the edge of the canoe tightly. Kapono had already told him what had happened at the shires, and, honestly, he fucking called it. From the moment the Aetherian ships had gotten close to the islands, Hanakahi could tell that was something was missing, and, sure enough, it was. Though he could recall being their once before, Pu’uwai seemed different to Hanakahi. The constant drizzle was definitely a large contributor to the alien feeling the island was giving off, but that wasn’t the only thing that was strange; it felt strangely empty, as if a part of the island’s usual energy had been stolen from it and its thief had absconded to some far off corner of the ocean.

It was so cold.
It was a tundra, of course it would be cold, Hanakahi knew that when he agreed to go. It did not make it any easier on him though. Foresight 20/20, presentsight also 20/20 but still very uncomfortable. He should have bought something warm to wear; he should have brought anything to wear.
